DHT11 Digital Relative Humidity and Temperature Sensor Module

The DHT11 Digital Relative Humidity and Temperature Sensor Module is a pre-calibrated device that combines resistive sensing technology with an NTC thermistor. As a result, it provides accurate readings of both humidity and temperature. The DHT11 breakout board, developed by Aosong, is popular for its low cost and easy integration into electronics projects.

This module features a high-performance 8-bit microcontroller that interfaces directly with the DHT11 sensor. It outputs a digital signal via a single data pin, making it ideal for systems with limited I/O. Additionally, the sensor updates readings every 2 seconds (0.5 Hz), which is sufficient for most basic applications.

Thanks to its compact design and built-in features such as a pull-up resistor, bypass capacitor, and onboard LED indicator, the DHT11 module is easy to set up. You can connect it directly to most microcontroller platforms, including Arduino, without additional components.

This sensor uses a capacitive humidity detector and a thermistor to measure ambient air conditions. It then transmits the data digitally, eliminating the need for analog input pins. Although the DHT11 is not as accurate or wide-ranging as the DHT22, it remains an excellent low-cost choice for beginners and hobbyists.

Keep in mind that the sensor requires careful timing when reading data, and you should poll it no more frequently than once every two seconds. Despite its limitations, the DHT11 is ideal for compact and budget-friendly temperature and humidity monitoring.
